The region in detail

South America has only 12 independent countries — the easiest continent to memorise. From Venezuela and Colombia in the north to Chile and Argentina in the south, by way of Brazil, Peru and Bolivia. The sticking points: recognising the flags with similar colours (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela) and not forgetting Paraguay or Uruguay.
