Introduction

At MapGuesser, we take your privacy very seriously. This policy applies to the mapguesser.fr website and to the MapGuesser mobile apps. It explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and what your rights are under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

By using MapGuesser, you accept the practices described in this policy.

1. Data Collected

We only collect data necessary for the game to function:

If you create an account:

Email address
Username (pseudo)
Password (hashed, never stored in plain text)
Profile picture, if you add one
If you sign in with Google or Apple: your email address and name, provided by that service

Game data:

History of games played
Statistics and scores
Game preferences
Friends list and invitations

Technical data:

IP address and device type, stored with your session for its security
Audience measurement: page views, in-game actions, searches and performance, linked to your account when you are signed in (see section 3)

Important: We never sell or rent any data. Audience measurement is self-hosted; on the website only, Google AdSense may set advertising cookies (section 3).

2. Data Usage

Your data is used only for:

Manage your user account
Save your statistics
Enable multiplayer
Improve the game

3. Cookies, Analytics and Advertising

We use audience measurement cookies via Rybbit Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service:

Type: Audience measurement cookies

Duration: Session cookies (deleted on closing)

Purpose: Understand site usage for improvement

Rybbit Analytics: Rybbit runs on our own servers, without advertising cookies, and does not track users across sites. When you are signed in, measurements are linked to your account (ID, username, profile picture) so we can understand how the game is used. A small share of visits (about 3%) is recorded as an interface replay to find bugs. This data is never shared.

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense, website only)

On the website, we show ads through Google AdSense. The mobile apps show no ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or other websites.

Google's advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve personalized ads. On your first visit, a consent banner lets you accept or decline these cookies; you can change your choice at any time.

You can also opt out of personalized advertising via adssettings.google.com or via youronlinechoices.eu.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal data.

Your account data is only accessible to you and to MapGuesser administrators for technical maintenance. Your username, profile picture and results are visible to other players. On the website only, our advertising partners (Google AdSense) may collect data through cookies to serve ads, as described in section 3, and only with your consent.

5. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your data:

Right of access

You can request a copy of your data.

Right to rectification

You can correct your inaccurate data.

Right to erasure

You can delete your account and game data at any time in Settings, under Danger Zone, on the website as well as in the app. To also erase your audience measurement data, email us.

Right to data portability

You can receive your data in a structured format.

Right to object

You can object to processing of your data.

Hashed passwords (never stored in plain text)
Secure HTTPS connection
