Andorra

Andorra's flag was officially adopted in 1866, though similar designs existed earlier. The vertical tricolor of blue, yellow, and red is often said to combine the colors of France (blue and red) and Spain (red and yellow), reflecting Andorra's unique status as a co-principality ruled jointly by the French President and the Spanish Bishop of Urgell. The central coat of arms features: the mitre and crozier of the Bishop of Urgell, three red bars from the Count of Foix (whose rights passed to France), four red bars of Catalonia, and two red cows representing the Counts of Béarn. The motto 'Virtus Unita Fortior' means 'United virtue is stronger.'
