Emirati Arabi Uniti

Adopted on December 2, 1971, when the UAE gained independence from Britain, the flag uses the Pan-Arab colors that derive from a verse by 14th-century poet Safi al-Din al-Hilli. The horizontal green stripe represents fertility and the land, white represents peace and neutrality, and black symbolizes the oil wealth that has transformed the nation. The vertical red stripe at the hoist signifies the unity of the seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah) and also represents the blood of martyrs who defended the nation. These colors are shared with several other Arab nations, emphasizing Arab solidarity.
